Precision-Built for the Last Generation of the 14L Series 60
The Detroit Diesel 23537387 EGR Cooler was engineered for the EPA07 14L Series 60 — one of the final and most refined iterations of Detroit’s iconic engine family. At Turbo Kings, we remanufacture this cooler to restore the original emission-control efficiency and thermal stability demanded by these late-model powerplants, used in Freightliner Columbia, Century, and Western Star trucks through 2010.
Every cooler is completely stripped, cleaned, and rebuilt from the core out. We begin by disassembling the entire unit to inspect all internal passages and joints. The cooler body is submerged in a heated aqueous alkaline tank to remove soot, carbon, and oil residue. Then it passes through an acid descaling stage, flushing away hardened coolant deposits and corrosion that restrict flow. Once the interior is restored to bare stainless, it is flushed with deionized water, dried under heat, and prepared for reassembly.
Each housing and tube stack undergoes dye-penetrant inspection to detect micro-cracks that could lead to coolant or exhaust cross-leaks. Units are pressure-tested up to 125 PSI to verify structural integrity before any reinforcement begins. End caps and transition welds are TIG-welded with 309L stainless filler, restoring factory rigidity at the stress points known to fail in high-mileage OEM cores.
What Makes a Turbo Kings Rebuild Different
Turbo Kings rebuilds are designed not just to meet OEM quality, but to outlast the original Detroit Diesel design. The Series 60 cooler’s upper and lower tanks are precision-surfaced to eliminate flange warpage and ensure gasket-tight sealing. Our technicians reinforce each joint with precision TIG bead overlays, followed by oven curing to stabilize weld tension and prevent future distortion.
Unlike quick-flush cleanings, our dual-stage process chemically restores flow and heat transfer efficiency to 98 % or higher of factory performance. Every unit is then flow-bench verified, measuring exhaust-gas restriction and coolant-pressure drop to confirm balanced performance across all tubes. The result — smoother EGR operation, lower combustion temperatures, and extended life for your turbo and aftertreatment system.
