Manufactured by Sheppard, the TAS65004 is part of the industry-proven TAS-series integral power steering gearbox platform, widely used in Class 7 and Class 8 trucks. This gearbox integrates the hydraulic control valve, piston, and sector shaft into a single cast housing, delivering controlled steering assist under high front-axle loads and demanding duty cycles.

This is not a reseal or cosmetic refresh. Each TAS65004 gearbox is fully torn down, internally reconditioned, and rebuilt to restore OEM steering response and pressure balance.

Every core begins with complete disassembly and media cleaning to remove oil residue, corrosion, and internal contamination. The gearbox housing is inspected for cracks, porosity, and bore wear. Sector shafts, pistons, worms, and valve components are measured for straightness, surface integrity, and tolerance compliance.

All wear components — including seals, bushings, bearings, and internal hydraulic components — are replaced using OEM-grade or equivalent parts matched specifically to Sheppard TAS gearbox specifications. Critical sealing and bearing surfaces are refinished as required to ensure proper internal clearances and leak-free operation.

Internal oil passages are thoroughly cleaned to eliminate debris that can cause valve sticking, steering drift, or premature seal failure.

Hydraulic Validation and Load Testing

Once assembled, each steering gearbox undergoes hydraulic bench testing under controlled pressure. This testing verifies proper assist response, valve centering, internal pressure balance, and leak integrity across the full steering range.

Sector shaft movement, valve timing, and pressure response are validated to ensure predictable steering feel and consistent return-to-center behavior. Only gearboxes that meet operational and pressure-holding standards are approved for release.

Each completed unit is serialized and logged for traceability.
